Equality in Runescape

Author: Aaron  //  Category: Runescape Truth

JaGeX will tell you everyone in Runescape is treated equally, in fact here is a quote from Mod MMG from a question I asked him:

Q) EpicAaron

Why does JaGeX show favoritism to certain fansites and players over others?

A – I don’t think we show player favouritism as I think you mean. There are simply tens of millions of players currently in the game, and it can be hard to get noticed – but if you do the right things……which could be anything from climbing the high scores, to posting a lot on the forums, to being a Clan celebrity, or perhaps just helping people out in the game you will get noticed by Jagex.

As for fansites, anyone can recommend a fansite to us on the fansite info thread and we’ll check them out – no favouritism, we just look for positive vibrant communities, for this there are published criteria which determine who we can support.

This is my response to him: BULL CRAP (or as he would say shitz) but I’ll go into this later.

Now when I started playing Runescape their stance was NO one was treated differently, we were all equal, and that worked for us, no one was left out or made to feel like they had to prove their loyalty to JaGeX or spend 10 YEARS playing to gain moderator status, or a “hey good job” from JaGeX.

Now I’d like to talk about fan site support, JaGeX has recently allowed select fansites to be discussed in Runescape, which I personally think is a good idea….but they are doing it wrong. JaGeX is selecting fansites that encourage a friendly atmosphere, that follow their rules, and basically dont say anything bad about them.

RunePlanet is one of the friendliest fansites you’ll EVER join, we have always been more of a family than a fansite, no one is treated better than the others, everyone knows one another, UNLIKE huge fansites where all the admins see are numbers. As for following their rules, RunePlanet CHANGED their name from RuneAddict JUST to enforce their RWT rule more we even stopped allowing bad language on the forums! I am friends with a LOT of the fansite owners on that list, and I know rules most of them have broken, but I’m not going to out them, that is because they are my friends, but the thing JaGeX needs to know is EVERYONE breaks their rules, just because they dont get caught dosnt mean they dont break them.

Now if you look at it today player moderators were chosen based on…well no one really knows, heck I was a player moderator, Da Legend was a player moderator, but I was always a very friendly player, I helped out my friends, and even TRIED to be friendly to others, but today thats changed. If you get maxed overall theres a HUGE chance you’ll be a moderator, is that fair? No. I know a few of the maxed players as well who are now player moderators, they have broken rules just like everyone else, and some of them arnt even friendly! If you want someone representing you JaGeX, dont pick players who think they are better than everyone else. Now I am not saying they are ALL like that, but I know a few who are.

Did you know some JaGeX moderators have no problems adding player moderators on MSN? Thats right, I have a friend that has one of their J-Mod friends added on msn, but do any of us normal players? Heck how can we contact JaGeX if we have a huge problem, before their was a contact section on their website, and now its gone.

Ahh the rules, everyone is punished the same right? WRONG. The other day Mod MMG was answering questions (View Image) now he is aloud to use offensive language while the rest of us would be muted? How exactly is that fair? Just because he works for JaGeX he can use language that would get us in trouble? They are supposed to be making an example of what is aloud, and he does that? That is complete BULL.

I am not going to sit around and let they say everyone is treated equal, they dont favor play over one another, because its not true. They DO, just like they hate Zybez because W13 wouldnt agree to remove other gaming ads from Zybez (yes thats right, JaGeX got angry because other games were shown on Zybez). Is that their right? NO! Its HIS website, they SHOULD be on the accepted fansite list, they are a MAJOR fansite with a lot of good work, but because JaGeX dosnt like that they display other games they removed them from the list. GOOD FIGHT.

Again, everything in this article is the opinion and facts from the author, not RunePlanet as a whole, I dont hate JaGeX, I’m stating the facts that are covered up. Next week I’ll be writing about hm…I’ll have to think about that ;P.

One of your tags is spelt incorrectly. It's 'favoritism' ;) . I mostly agree with what you are saying.

I completely agree with you. I'm a co-owner of a recognized fansite, and we had to remove competitor advertisements before we became recognized; although we weren't really earning much income with them on, I still believe that whether or not they are shown should be left up to the website owner. Jagex should select fansites based on the quality of their guides, community, information, databases, etc. and not turn down well-respected ones because of the uncontrollable fact that a competitor game showed up on an advertisement slot.

    Fixed, thanks :) .

Totally agreed, as much as I disagree with W13 on some things he owns one of the top Runescape fansites, and it deserves to be on the list. Glad we have some support from recognized fansite owners too ;P.

well for 1 some times rune Scape has adds for wow and if that are not scarde of other games like mmg says then why shold it madder to them as long as we are don't have bad adds i think it is ok
    and
from what i have herd for player mods that the new way to get mod is to get all your fans and friends to post on the rs forums that so and so shod be a mod and put down some bs to make them look good then they get mod
and that how they are geting mod with out doing all the work you shod

  6. Aaron Says:

Yes, they are aloud to show other game ads, but if you do you will not be accepted into the approved fansite list. Its another, "do as we say, not as we do" thing like they did with rule breaking. There is a thread to post in to be reviewed to get mod, but I have no clue if it works or not.

I disagree that fansites are being chosen because they follow all of Jagex' rules perfectly. I'm from MSW, and we were pretty much the first featured fansite, the one that Jagex really got talking to from the beginning.

Now, for ages we were showing competitor ads on our website, and they talked to us. Our main admin swears all the time, and they talk to us. She also visibly complains about updates, along with other members, and we just generally don't let them off with much at all, and they still talk to us despite the fact that we'll be angry about what they say.

I think there is more to this story than you let out, most probably unintentionally, but there's still a reason there that they don't want to support you. I feel the same about Zybez, I don't believe for a minute they are blocked because they have competitor ads. I think it's much more about this "Curse" network they belong to being involved in dodgy dealings,

Now, P-Mods I can agree on, seeing as they often seem to be complete idiots while hardworking and courteous players get nothing, I've long thought that P-Mods should be scrapped and replaced with another system.

I have left nothing out, if you have read the WHOLE story as to why JaGeX has a problem with me, and the site staff you would know I have not hidden anything, please do research before accusing me of hiding something. http://www.epicaaron.com/2009/12/jagex-plays-favo… there you go.

Now as for Zybez, Zybez didnt accept the deal from Curse until AFTER JaGeX removed them because of them refusing to remove the ads. I know your website is biased to Zybez as when your website was fairly new I asked your site owner Ren to become affiliates, I was declined simply because I was (at the time) affiliated with Zybez, no other reason.

Now I am starting to think that other fansites arnt afraid to speak out as I've gotten support from 2 other accepted fansites, which gives me hope.

I wrote this to expose JaGeX, if I was going to hide something I wouldnt be poking JaGeX like this. Well enough of me defending myself, I answered your question, have a good day.

This is a very cool article, I could not have agreed more.
