"Mining is the skill with which you extract ores from rocks. These ores can be smelted into bars and smithed into useful items such as armour and weapons. Before you are able to start Mining, you will need to acquire a key piece of equipment commonly known as the pickaxe. Initially, you will only be able to use a bronze pickaxe, available for purchase at Bob’s Brilliant Axes in Lumbridge, respawn points in Rimmington and the Barbarian Village, and in some general stores across RuneScape. As your skill increases you will find yourself able to wield pickaxes of a higher quality, making it far easier for you to mine. Different rocks contain different types of ore. To find out what ore a specific rock contains you will need to 'Prospect' it. To do this, simply right-click on the rock and select the 'Prospect rocks' option from the list that appears on your screen. This will tell you what ore the rock contains. Over time, you will be able to tell which rocks contain what ore by the colour of the rocks instead of prospecting them. Once you have found type of ore that you wish to obtain, you will need to start Mining the rock. You can do this by either using a wielded pickaxe, or just by having one in your inventory. When you select 'Mine Rocks' from the menu, your character will automatically use the pickaxe. If your pickaxe was in your inventory, it will return there; if you were wielding the pickaxe, it will stay in your wielded inventory slot. The speed at which you mine ores is based on a combination of your Mining level and the type of pickaxe you are using. The animation has no effect on this." (Quoted from Runescape.com) The Mining level required only applies when you wish to use the pickaxe as a tool to mine rocks. If you do not have the required Mining level, you may still wield the pickaxe as a weapon (provided you have the necessary Attack level to do so). For example, if you have a Mining level of 30 and you obtain a rune pickaxe (which needs a Level 41 Mining to be used), you may still use it to attack monsters, but if you try to mine coal ore with it you will not be able to.
Ores are what you recieve when you mine a certain type of rock. They can be used for a wide assorment of objects like; Smithing, Crafting, Jewlery, and many other skills.
Gems can be found randomly when Mining rocks around RuneScape. After completing the Shilo Village quest, members can also mine gem rocks. Wearing an amulet of glory can increase your chances of getting a gem when Mining
When it is time to extract more valuable ores, it is advisable that you study the locations of the various mines across RuneScape. Try to familiarise yourself with the usefulness of each one, as some are more popular than others. It will take longer to mine the same amount of ore in busier mines than it will in less populated ones.
Free World Sites
The Living Rock Caverns can be accessed by a rope climb found at the northern end of the Dwarven Mine. It's filled with dangerous, aggressive creatures, so prospective miners should make sure they're no slouches in the combat stakes too. The caverns hold many wonders for miners, most notable of which are the concentrated minerals deposits and the living rock creatures who dwell here.
After completing the Kennith's Concerns quest, you'll gain access to a rubium mine beneath Witchaven. To reach the mine, head down into the shrine, through the secret door and through the caverns to the mine area. Inside the mine itself, you'll find 6 places to mine rubium in both the second and third of the main chambers.
Shooting stars fall across RuneScape with some regularity and bring great rewards for dedicated miners. Aside from the excellent training opportunities they provide, you can also earn some items add some interest to your training.
It is possible to get double XP when mining ores. Travel to Barbarian Assault and talk to Commander Connad to receive a penance horn; this can be charged by playing waves of the minigame, as long as you ensure that the switch in the waiting room is changed to 'XP'. With charges on the horn, you will automatically receive double XP when mining ores. You can then 'check-potential' the horn at any time to find out how many charges remain on it.

Drinks:
Once you've mastered the skill of Mining, you should know head over to the mining guild and speak to one of the dwarves at the entrance and pay 99k to get the Mining Cape of Accomplishment!
